Job Description

The Department of Planning and Budget (DPB) advises the Governor, the Governor’s staff, and cabinet secretaries on fiscal, policy, program, and legislative issues involving state agencies. It is seeking a self-motivated, creative, and analytical individual to serve as a coordinator in the agency’s Health and Human Services Division to assist the Associate Director with: 1) oversight and review of analyst assignments; 2) coordination of division activities; and 3) liaison activities with agency management and the Governor’s office staff as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have: (1) considerable knowledge of and experience with the Commonwealth’s budget, its budget processes and practices; (2) experience in managing and analyzing complex budget issues; (3) knowledge of and experience with the Commonwealth’s legislative process; and (4) experience interacting with upper echelon state government officials (i.e., Governor, Governor’s cabinet, university presidents, agency heads, General Assembly members). Applicants must possess skills in using basic office software including the full suite of Microsoft Office products as well as the demonstrated ability to learn other proprietary software products.

Applicants who apply should be able to demonstrate their ability to manage multiple priorities and projects with critical deadlines concurrently. In addition to being a strong analyst, the applicant must also be able to: (1) demonstrate strong communication skills (both written and oral); (2) review multiple work products; and (3) be able to lead division activities that produce quality work ready for publication or presentation to key state leaders.

Preferred Qualifications

A master’s degree in the financial or public policy fields and experience leading analyst or project teams are preferred.
